Butcher Air Conditioning and Butcher Insulation has been providing Acadiana with air conditioning, heating services and insulation for over 72 years, but we have been evolving for closer to 88 years and three generations of Butchers. As a direct descendant of Dixie Electric, the current business was founded by the first group of Butcher Brothers immediately after World War I.

Lawrence, Edwin, and Jerry Butcher got their start in the emerging automobile electronics industry before air conditioning existed. From there the brothers decided to offer appliances, such as home radios and washing machines. Eventually the Company ventured into refrigeration, and air conditioning.

Our History

Lawrence Butcher sold his first air conditioning unit in the 1930’s. This began the building block for Butcher Refrigeration Company. Building a strong relationship with customers and within the community, providing excellent workmanship and customer satisfaction Lawrence Butcher created a foundation for the loyalty still received today.

Butcher Refrigeration was turned over to Warren, Matt, and Tom Butcher after Lawrence’s retirement. In their first year in business, the second-generation Butcher brothers only sold 15 air conditioners. That 15 units eventually turned into 300 units per year. This encouraged the name change toButcher Air Conditioning in 1955. By the time the third generation of Butcher’s came on board in 1982, Butcher Air Conditioning was selling over ten times the number of units they sold in 1955.

Today, Butcher Air Conditioning is the largest dealer for Trane air conditioning units in South Louisiana. We are headed by Bobby Butcher, who also handles all of the day-to-day decisions along with Mark Haydel our highly experienced Service Manager. The younger son of Tom Butcher is Johnny Butcher, the President of Butcher Distributors located in the same building as Butcher Air Conditioning.

Butcher Insulation Technologies is a Spray Foam Insulation Line that was recently added in 2009 to our line of products. Finding ways to satisfy our customers is our #1 goal in business.

By sponsoring many organizations and offering 24-hour service, we are still extremely active in the community. Our Management, Technicians, Installers, and Customer Service Personnel are the best in the business. And, we still treat every customer with the same respect and decency as our ancestors did.
